What’s AUSF Italia?
A bit of History and Founded:
Forestry students’ associations in Italy started in 1990, when the first AUSF (Associazione Universitaria Studenti Forestali – University Forestry Students’ Association) was founded at the University of Tuscia in Viterbo, central Italy. Since then, several AUSF have been founded.
The purpose of AUSF Italia (Confederazione delle Associazioni Universitarie degli Studenti Forestali d’Italia – Confederation of Italian Forestry Students’ Associations) is to gather and coordinate the AUSFs and similar associations. Such an organization is the first in Italy.
The idea was declared in October 2008 in Taormina (Messina, Sicilia Region, southern Italy), where students coming from different Faculties met for the III° National Forestry Congress (2009, III° National Forestry Congress Proceedings (2), 1175).
The constituent assembly took place in Capracotta (Isernia, Molise Region, central Italy) from the 26th to the 29th of September 2009.
The birth of the AUSF Italia was announced at the VII° National Congress of the Italian Society of Forestry and Forest Ecology (October 2009, Isernia, Molise Region, central Italy).
The AUSF Italia is a non-political and no-profit organization. Gathering several associations throughout the Country provides a better circulation of information, experiences, people, knowledge, collaboration and friendship; so that is the idea the AUSF Italia is based on.
The AUSFs of Torino, Padova, Firenze, Viterbo (sede centrale), Napoli, Molise, Nuoro, Potenza e Palermo and the FAG (Forest & Agricolture Group, of Reggio Calabria) take already part in the Confederation. The seat of the AUSF Italia is the local committee of Viterbo.
The AUSF Italia is a confederation, that is to say that it has got a coordination roll.
The “local committees” maintain their autonomy and self-governing. The AUSF Italia promotes group works, events of general interest, common principles and ideas. According to the Statute of AUSF Italia, a general Assembly takes place yearly; there is a Council and a Chairman with a one-year task. Every single local committee has a representative who takes part in the Council.
The members of the Council, coming from different Italian cities and regions, meet together in video conferences (Skype) weekly or they talk on chat. The Council makes resolutions and a secretary provides the minutes of every Council meeting. Information and news are sent through an e-mail group where members of every local committee can post.
The AUSF Italia is building up a network within Universities and students, but also with professional registers, associations of forestry interest, local authorities, administrative agencies and Italian organs of environmental politics.
This network is developing through meetings, appointments, mailing and posting.
The framework and the projects of the AUSF Italia are also known thanks to several articles we have written for national magazines of environmental and forestry interest (Sherwood, Forest@, Italia Forestale e Montana, L’Agrotecnico oggi etc.)
